003:: Chasing The Tangent - Soulskin
Thursday, 20 March 2008
With so much ground to cover, Chasing the Tangent flits around the planet unearthing some next level cuts this fortnight, with tracks by J Dilla, Lorett Fleur reaturing LMNO and Bilal from his legendary album Love for Sale, that incidentally never got released, but is floating around out there bitland, through to exclusive aussie tracks from Mr Johnson's Marching Band (SYD) and Cylan (SYD). Some brand new tunes by Claro Intelecto from his new album "Metanarrative", again we hear another fine cut from Erykah Badu's new one, and a seriously thoughtful track from the new album by Jamie Lidell.

002:: Chasing The Tangent - From Dawn til Dust
Friday, 29 February 2008

The job of making a podcast for Chasing the Tangent is no easy task. I have really got my work cut out for me hunting down the music makers that are surfing the edge of innovative sound. Starting with a brand new one from Briztronix's (Melb) debut album "Structures of Canyons", we proceed on to the blindingly gorgeous track from Erykah Badu's new album that just came out a couple of days ago, produced in part by Madlib. We have a Flying Lotus remix of Madvillain, exclusive tracks from Samiyam (LA) and Last Zulu (New York), and glide on through a couple of electro infused dubstep tracks. I tracked down some dusty sounding cuts from Galaxy Toobin Gang,  Faux Pas (Melb) the New Age Steppers and Arthur Russell to finish up.

057 :: Cycles of Life
Monday, 10 December 2007

Premonitions by Plants has been running for over a year now playing an esoteric blend of music that I have collected, been given, or found on my travels. The initial idea was to set aside an hour every week to play music to a few of my plants, and see how they responded. The results were hardly scientific but as an example, one plant particularly suffered greatly while I was overseas, and almost died. I gently placed it next to the stereo, and played an assorted collection of sounds. Over two months the plant began to revive and started to lean towards the speakers. It now bends on an angle to touch the side of the speaker. I am not sure if my observations align with other research out there but I have a suspicion that if you like the music you play to your plants, chances are they will like it too, being the sensitive agents that they are.

The PBP podcast gave me a great opportunity to use my research on plants as themed shows. While the research continues, the podcast will cease, and give way to a brand new show next year, that will be syndicated on iTunes, Odeo, LastFM and straightup.com.au. The Premonitions by Plants podcasts will be archived here for registered users to access.

So i will leave you now with this last podcast, a cruisy summer afternoon mix of drexciyan electro, rare grooves and white labels, with brand new tracks from David Last and Some Freak featuring Prize.  Thanks for tuning in and look forward to serving up a new show for you all next year.
