Memories of Miss Memory

Brain Controlled Musical Instrument

September 26th, 2008

Come along to Electrofringe in Newcastle next week and check out the very first public demonstration of the “brain-controlled musical instrument”, a project I have been researching with collaborator Scott Eggert. On Friday 3rd October at 3:30pm-5:00pm @ University House - Seminar 2 [UNH 1.38], we will be demonstrating the instrument and discussing our research and future plans for a brain controlled MIDI device/instrument. On Saturday 4th we will be joined by visual artist Mat McCosker and will be using the instrument in a performance with the music and visual being generated by the brain.

Next CDR Session, Wed 1st October 2008

September 23rd, 2008

Yes my creative friends, CDR is just around the corner so time to get a crackin on getting a track or three spruced up for the night. Get busy and drop your new tracks mixed down and onto a disc for us to hear. The music at the last CDR was incredible and great to see some new faces. Don’t worry about tracks being finished and perfect - the nights about checking each other’s vibe and also getting to hear your music before you finish it off - a chance to tweak or add or boost that little something to make it awesome.

And what about your friends?

CDR isn’t just about equipment nerds getting all hot n bothered about knobs and faders, this is a music get together for everyone who wants to hear NEW MUSIC. Invite all your friends to have a drink and a dance and be part of the night.

All you have to do is bring down a CDR with 1-3 tracks you are working on, or have just completed, and hand it in to us before 9:30pm.

7 - 8:00 we’ll be playing CDR’s from absent friends - from as far and wide as Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide to Detroit, London, Reykjavik, Berlin, etc etc etc. Big names, unknown names, hard-to-pronounce names…you’ll find them all here.

8 - 9:00 Lorna will chat with the Gaslamp Killer and quite possibly some other other stellar acts that are currently in town. You will have to come down to find out!!!!

9:00 - close the soundsystem gets 100% localised, as we dig through and play the music you bring along with you on the night.

glksitp

The Gaslamp Killer, Los Angeles based DJ/Producer, Low End Theorist, and Dublab Radio resident, is not your conventional artist. What separates him from the rest of the herd is his extensive knowledge in psychedelic rock, left-field jazz, demonic bass-heavy Hip-Hop, Middle-Eastern/ Indian rare grooves, and ear-piercing helicopter breaks. The energy during his live sets resonates through crowds, taking you to the filthiest psyche/freak-out you’ve ever been on. He’s earned the respect of eclectic heavy-hitters around the world and has shared the stage with Flying Lotus, Digable Planets, Kode9, Broadcast, M.F. Doom, Thievery Corporation, and many others.

When: Thursday 2nd October 2008
Where: Civic Underground, 388 Pitt st, Sydney
