mobile pics from the RBMA stage

February 27th, 2008

Take an electronica stage, put a whole bunch of seminal local and international acts on it, then hide it inside a loading dock at an indie rock festival. What will happen?

ANNOUNCING THE RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY ‘BEATS, BLEEPS N BASS’ STAGE AT MELBOURNE’S ST JEROMES LANEWAY FESTIVAL.

Red Bull Music Academy Radio add a whole new dimension to this year’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Melbourne with the Beats, Bleeps n Bass Stage. The lineup is RIDICULOUS, featuring legends new and old - Plaid (first ever tour since they toured with Bjork back in ‘95), Flying Lotus, Harmonic 313, Dan Deacon, Steve Spacek, Qua, The Canyons, Declan Kelly and Sofie Loizou. Basically a heavy dose of everything from electronica through to Detroit style hip hop, electro, dubstep, drum n bass and maybe some crazy old rave music.

CDR RETURNS - FLYING LOTUS GUEST - WED 20TH FEB

February 10th, 2008

Ever wanted to know more about the LA Hip hop scene, growing up in a family of famous jazz musicians, or how you go about getting signed to one of the most successful electronic labels in the world? Well these are just some of the questions Lorna will be be putting to Flying Lotus when he joins us at CDR on Wed 20th FEB. And of course, staying true to the CDR vibe, we’ll get to hear some of his newest cuts fresh of his hardrive!!

But what about you?

Get busy - you’ve got 10 days to get your new tracks mixed down and onto a disc for us to hear. The music at the last CDR was mindblowing in quality and variety so we’re psyched to hear what’s going to hit this time. And don’t worry about tracks being finished and perfect - the nights about checking each other’s vibe and also getting to hear your music before you finish it off - a chance to tweak or add or boost that little something to make it awesome.

And what about your friends?

CDR isn’t just about equipment nerds getting all hot n bothered about knobs and faders, this is a music get together for everyone who wants to hear NEW MUSIC. Invite all your friends to have a drink and a dance and be part of the night.

All you have to do is bring down a CDR with 1-3 tracks you are working on, or have just completed, and hand it in to me before 9:30pm.

7 - 8:00 sit down with Flying Lotus and get to know him and his music. Open forum to ask questions about music, production, business or life.

8 - 9:30 we’ll be playing CDR’s from absent friends - from as far and wide as Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide to Detroit, London, Reykjavik, Berlin, etc etc etc. Big names, unknown names, hard-to-pronounce names…you’ll find them all here.

9:30 - close the soundsystem gets 100% localised, as we dig through and play the music you bring along with you on the night.

FREE ENTRY and FIRST DRINK’S ON US

where: Hermanns (cnr Butlin and City Rd at Sydney Uni)
when: wednesday 20th February, 7pm til we play all the music…..
