Memories of Miss Memory

Sydney CD-R night: Local producers, come test your mixes on the big sound system.

November 9th, 2007

What ARE you going to bring this time?

CDR is rolling around for the last time in ‘07 so you know what that means - its time to get a track or two off your hard-drive and onto a disc.
It doesn’t need to be finished - in fact what better chance to hear it big and loud before you put the finishing touches on it?

As usual it’s about the MUSIC. All styles that dig deep - you know what I’m talkin about… for heads who make or appreciate music without purist boundaries. Apart from the excellent new music, you might also hear stuff like…

“Damn that’s punchy - what compressors do you use?”
“I didn’t know you could sing?”
“I need a drummer - fancy doing a swap?”
“Where can I buy this track?”
“Can I book you for our next gig?”
“Is that the new bootygabba genre?”
“I had no idea you could do that with a pan-flute and a guitar pedal!”
“That bass is HUGE - oh oh, where’s the toilet??!!!!”
“Oi!! Get me a beer!!”

The CDR family has room for everyone so we warmly invite you to make YOUR MUSIC a part of the night.

All you have to do is bring down a CDR with 1-3 tracks you are working on, or have just completed, and hand it in before 9:30pm.
It’s all FREE so bring your friends down for a beer and the chance to hear something NEW!!!!!!!!!!

8 - 9:30 we’ll be playing CDR’s from absent friends - from as far and wide as Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide to Detroit, London, Reykjavik, Berlin, etc etc etc. Big names, unknown names, hard-to-pronounce names…you’ll find them all here.

9:30 - close the soundsystem gets 100% localised, as we dig through and play the music you bring along with you on the night.

where: Hermanns (cnr Butlin and City Rd at Sydney Uni)
when: wednesday 14th November, 8pm til we play all the music…..

My first attempt at Ikebana

November 7th, 2007

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging, is influenced by buddhism and has been practiced for over 600 years. Yesterday I took a crash course in Ikebana at my local library, and had a brilliant time learning the fundamentals of making beautiful and striking arrangements. Here is a picture of my first attempt. I am totally hooked!

Wow, two great mixes in one week (and some good news for Sydneysiders!)

November 6th, 2007

It’s too good to be true, hot on the heels of HAF’s “I can’t believe it’s not minimal” mix, Some Freak was up late last night, and has posted a new mix up on the high jinks site. He’s called it the Es Vedra mix. Perhaps this a sign that summer is just around the bend.

Go get it while its hot!

Someone else was up late last night, our Premier Mr Iemma was up changing our liquor licensing laws in NSW, which means there is potential for creating more places to hang out and be merry, more venues for music events to take place, and hopefully more diversity! Plenty of things to be optimistic about!
